Are you a complete newbie in the world of online betting? If so, you’ve likely heard of the many benefits that the online segment offers over outdated, traditional high street betting shops. Notably, this includes lucrative bonuses for opening an account, enhanced odds, access to thousands of markets, heaps of supported payment methods, and 24/7 customer support.
You won’t find any of these benefits in your local bookmaker, so why not make the transition over to the online space?
If this sounds like something you would like to explore further, but you’re not quite sure where to start, then we welcome you to read our guide on ‘How do I place a bet online?’. Within it, we’ll present a simple step-by-step guide on how you can get started TODAY!
Step 1: Choose an online betting site
First and foremost, you will need to choose an online betting site that best meets your needs. There are now hundreds of operators to choose from, so spend some time thinking about your priorities. Notably, this should centre on platforms that offer highly competitive odds, thousands of betting markets, and support for everyday payment methods like a debit/credit card.
Step 2: Open an account
Unlike a traditional high street betting shop, you will be required to open an account before you can start placing bets. Don’t worry, as the process literally takes a couple of minutes. All you need to provide is some basic information such as your full name, home address, date of birth, telephone number, and email address. You’ll also need to choose a username and a strong password so that you can log in to your account as and when you see fit.
Step 3: Deposit funds
Now that you’ve gone through the seamless process of opening a betting account, you will now need to deposit some funds. Once again, this should take no more than a couple of minutes – if that. You’ll likely be able to choose from an everyday debit/credit card or e-wallet (such as PayPal or Skrill) – both of which are usually processed instantly and at no cost. As soon as the deposit is processed, the funds will be added to your betting account.
Step 4: Choose your betting market
Now that your betting account is funded, you’re ready to place your first-ever bet! If you have a particular market in mind, you will initially need to select the respective sport – such as football, cricket, rugby, or snooker. Next, you’ll then need to select the specific event – such as Spurs vs Arsenal or Chelsea vs Wolves.
Finally, you will then be presented with thousands of available betting markets. You can filter the markets down by the specific bet type, such as ‘Total Goals’, ‘Corners’ or ‘Handicaps’.
Step 5: Add your bet to your bet slip
At this stage of the end-to-end process, you should now have a fully funded betting account, and have chosen which market you want to bet on. To keep things simple, let’s say that you’ve narrowed your selection down to the England vs Bulgaria game, and you’re interested in betting on the total number of corners.
As per your chosen betting site, the line has been set at 12.5 corners. As such, you have two options – you can either bet on the game yielding more than 12.5 corners (i.e. 13 corners or more), or less. Both options come with odds of 10/11, which is just below Evens.
You strongly believe that the game will yield heaps of corners, so you decide to bet on there being 12.5 corners or more, at odds of 10/11. As such, you simply need to click on the market and it will be added to your digital bet slip!
Step 6: Place your bet
The final stage of the betting process is to choose your stakes, much in the same way as you would in a high street betting shop. As you have already loaded your bet slip up with a 12.5+ corners bet, all you need to do is enter the amount that you wish to bet.
For example, if you’re looking to bet £50, simply enter ‘50’ into the bet slip. Once you do, the potential payout will update. In this example, you would see a potential payout of £95.45 (£50 stake + £45.45 winnings). If you’re happy with the figures, simply click on the ‘PLACE BET’ button.
Congratulations – You’ve just placed your first ever bet online! If the bet is successful, the winnings will be paid straight into your online betting balance, so you don’t need to do anything else apart from enjoying the game!
